How I treated a cough in a baby

Usually mothers write reviews about the use of different medicines and goods, but today is not the case. I very rarely share my opinion, but today it’s the situation when you can’t keep quiet, because if my experience helps at least one frightened parent, then I spent my time on this review for good reason!

Gedelix Syrup

It all started with the fact that my wife had breast problems in the third month of our daughter’s life. An ambulance took her to the hospital for an operation - mastitis was very neglected, urgent measures had to be taken. And so I took a sick leave at work and stayed with my little frightened princess, who did not understand why she was slipping a bottle instead of her mother’s breast ...

My wife spent two weeks in the hospital and, of course, this period, of course, was the first cold of our daughter. I don’t know what triggered this episode - either a sharp replacement of breast milk with a mixture, or a virus, taken up on the street, but the fact remained - the daughter flooded and began to cough. I’m not at all timid, but here, probably for the first time in many years I was seriously scared - I have a baby in my arms, a baby has a cough, and I have to do something about it, and they said on the phone at the clinic only tomorrow .

Heavy artillery was called to help - mother-in-law, who worked for 20 years as an optometrist in a military unit. The mother-in-law flew on the wings of the night and not alone, but at the ready with her therapist and the Gedelix syrup. Despite the exhortations of the mother-in-law and the retired therapist - what do they even know about coughing in children! - first, I carefully read the entire composition and instructions from cover to cover - to “stuff” the medicine, not myself, but the child! Surrendered, but while they were treating their daughter, they were not too lazy to surf the Internet and found information about Gedelix at one pediatric forum - there the doctors confirmed that it was possible to give syrup to infants, but only at the indicated dosage.

Gedelix

Moreover, they wrote that this is almost the only remedy that is suitable for such young children, since almost all syrups are designed for children over a year old. The composition of Gedelix was also encouraging - it does not contain sugar, alcohol, dyes, in general, nothing that is categorically contraindicated in infants.

In short, they gave syrup in the dosage indicated on the package and began to carefully monitor the condition of the baby. Immediately a miracle did not happen, but after 2-3 hours I noticed that the cough was not so hard, and my daughter’s breathing became smoother and calmer. I sent my mother-in-law with the support group back home, and he spent the whole night over the bed, well, just in case. In the morning he gave another 2.5 ml of syrup, the cough was already much easier, and after a couple of hours the district pediatrician arrived.

By this moment, the daughter did not cough so much. The doctor looked at her and at first reacted negatively to the fact that I had given the baby medicine before the examination (he did not know about Gedelix before). But then I read the composition of the drug, said that everything is in order and that the child can continue to be given syrup until the cough passes. On the third day, my daughter recovered, but then I began to cough! Usually I try not to drink medicine, but I was afraid to infect a small one and also started taking Gedelix (it is suitable for all ages). The syrup, which I was no longer surprised, helped me, like my daughter, on the third day.

By the time our mother returned, everyone was already healthy and cheerful, which made her incredibly happy! My main advice to all parents is not to panic, call a doctor, but also be able to cope with minor health problems on your own. I hope that my experience will help someone in difficult times!
