What a newborn child can and should be able to do in the first month of his life

Many young parents believe that a month-old baby is still too small, and all he needs is a healthy sleep and mother's milk. But this is not so: babies develop very rapidly, especially when they are given a lot of time and are engaged. To assess how the baby develops, parents should know what a baby should be able to do in 1 month.

For the first month of life, the crumbs will have to get used to the new conditions of existence, adapt to new conditions of life. Now this is not a newborn little man, but a baby. During this month, he imperceptibly learned a lot, already knows how much.

What a child can and should be able to do in the first month of his life

Physical development

  • By the end of the first month, the baby gradually ceases to take the pose of the embryo, moves more actively, knocks with arms and legs. All his movements are unbalanced so far, but gradually they become more coordinated. It will take another 2-3 months;
  • Some babies manage to raise their heads slightly at 1 month when they are lying on their tummy. The child manages to hold the head for some time when it is held upright;
  • Lying on his tummy, he should be able to simultaneously slightly raise his ass and head. If at this time he put his palm under the heels, he will push off from it and advance a few centimeters;
  • Reflexes of newborns did not die out. At a medical examination, the child must clearly demonstrate them.

Emotional development

  • For the first four weeks of life, the child already knows how to distinguish his mother's voice from everyone else. He knows her smell, her touch; When a loved one is touching the baby, he rejoices and even stops crying. However, the touch of a stranger can greatly scare him. Therefore, giving a child to strangers in the hands is not yet recommended;
  • The kid copies everything that he is able to see. Smile at him more often. And very quickly he will answer your smile with a smile. And this will not be the reflexive involuntary smile of a newborn, but quite conscious, intended for you;
  • At 1 month old, he had been examining bright stationary objects near his eyes for several minutes. He is already capable of watching the toy, which is slowly being carried before his eyes;
  • The kid begins to make throat sounds, similar to gurgling. This is the beginning of a walk, when the baby first consciously experiences the speech apparatus. And while the first words are still far away, the first attempts are already at the age of one month;
  • At the age of one month, the child knows how to show his mood - by crying or smiling;
  • The kid reacts to sounds, can determine where it comes from, turn his head in that direction. Listens to them.The reaction becomes more conscious, the child is less afraid of harsh sounds, distinguishes the intonation of speech. Mom’s voice calms the baby, and the voices of strangers frighten and alarm;
  • Waking up and eating at the same time. At this age, children already have a daily regimen. Mom can correct it, but it must be done very gently, without stress for the child;
  • Scream and cry. A monthly baby cries about three hours a day. This is considered the norm, since it is in this way that he can inform his mother about problems. Crying varies depending on the annoying factor - hunger, a dirty diaper, a desire to be on hand, sleep, etc.

SpeechThe voice unit is being trained by shouting, grunting, smacking.
IntelligenceThe sensory development of crumbs (sensory-motor) has begun. Now he is working out the skills given to him from birth: sucking, responding to sounds, light stimuli, temperature. The first conditioned (non-congenital) reflexes are produced.

By the end of the first month with the disappearance of physiological hypertonicity, the child’s posture becomes more relaxed. Some no longer need swaddling while sleeping.
