How I earned maternity leave

Mom of young children is more convenient to work at home. Some women work in order not to lose their qualifications and use their existing knowledge and skills as intended. Someone just gets tired of the constantly "groundhog day" when, in addition to cooking lunch and walking with a child, there is nothing to do. In many families, after giving birth, there is simply not enough money, and the woman is forced to work to contribute to the family budget. These reasons deserve the young mother to make some efforts and find a suitable part-time job that allows her to earn income at the time convenient for her, without parting with the child and without leaving home.

Most of the women I know earn on maternity leave. I myself found the first part-time job on the Internet. Over time, a part-time job in my free time turned into a full-fledged remote work “for myself”. It brings good income and makes it possible to build your day at your own discretion, without wasting time on the road to the office. And I don’t even want to think about returning to the office.

My story. How can I earn on maternity leave?

When I was pregnant, my husband lost his job. This has made a huge gap in the family budget. The spouse sometimes managed to earn extra money, but with this money we could buy only the most necessary things so as not to “stretch our legs from hunger”. The lack of money for fruits, vegetables, curds and vitamins needed by a pregnant woman made me think about a side job. So I started working at home not because I wanted to fulfill my potential, but to fill an empty refrigerator with food.

I was "on you" with the Internet then and confidently believed that remote earnings on the Internet were real nonsense, scam and fraud. (By the way, there are a lot of scammers on the Web, but this topic deserves a separate story). I started looking for a homework: I monitored employers' ads all day, subscribed to newsletters from recruiting agencies, posted a resume. To earn at least some money, at the same time I began to knit to order.

I have a huge knitting experience, I love and know how to do it, and it would be a sin not to try to earn it. My main mistake in this type of activity was that initially I asked for too low a price for my work. The first things I knitted for a friend and did not take a high price from her. She advertised me to her friends, those to her, and I unexpectedly fell into knitting slavery for a long time.I was ashamed to ask a great price and I carried out orders literally for a penny. I really like knitting, for me it is a pleasure, the best rest and relaxation. There is no better pastime for me than an evening with a good movie and crochet / knitting / knitting. But it was insulting that I had a lot of orders, and it was inconvenient to raise the price (that’s a fool!). I continued to work almost for nothing until I found associates in knitting forums. After talking with them, I found out how much manual labor actually costs. Then I raised the price for my things an order of magnitude higher. Orders immediately became less, and revenue increased.

I was not limited to knitting. At the same time, I made business cards, labels, calendars, collages, posters, handouts and other graphic design masterpieces familiar to order. Also, taking into account my past experience in the construction and design office and knowledge of graphic programs, I carried out design projects of the premises. I was not sure that I was a professional in this field, so I offered my services only to friends and acquaintances. This type of activity helped me earn some money for a while in order to stay afloat, although not to say that I would achieve any success.

Already having some experience at home, I discovered the world of freelancing. In this field, I worked longer and more successfully. It turns out that on the Internet there are a huge number of exchanges where freelancers of various directions graze: copywriters (people who write texts), translators, programmers, accountants, designers - in general, representatives of all areas of intellectual work. I immediately realized that as a designer I was uncompetitive and decided to direct all my strengths and abilities to copywriting exchanges. I have always been able to write and love to write since school essays.

On the articles, I earned my first dollars on the Internet. I posted my article on the stock exchange in free sale and bought it very quickly. This inspired me wildly, and I began scribbling dozens of articles. They sold well, but I still earned little money, and all because I continued to value my work too cheaply (I still didn’t get smarter and still sold my work for the price of the Negro labor on the plantation). For some reason, it seemed to me that professional journalists and writers were working entirely on the Internet, and I could not compete with them with my little experience. Having already become a webmaster, I myself ordered articles from copywriters and realized what kind of nonsense it was, and that everything was much simpler - if you want and try to work as a copywriter, everyone can.

While writing articles for other people's sites, I was very envious of those for whom I write them. It seemed to me that website maintenance was a very complex, severely noble work, which not every mortal could do. I really wanted to study this work, and I began to collect information and delve into. As a result, I am currently conducting several online projects. I like this business so much that I can’t even call it work - it’s my hobby.

Conducting your own Internet projects is a fanatically beloved activity that even does not turn out to be called a job.

Among my friends there are many freelancers. They make money online in many ways:

soap is brewed (you can make an exclusive aromatic cosmetic product. A very pleasant, beautiful and fragrant occupation);
engaged in scrapbooking - the art of making and designing photo albums;
sewing and knitting toys, including Christmas ones;
are engaged in tutoring (both at home and remotely, via Skype);
make jewelry and accessories (handmade is gaining momentum!);
look after other people's children at home, take them to school or to sections;
sell photos in photo banks (while walking with your child, you can make a lot of beautiful, unique photos that people want to pay for. True, this is more true for the bourgeois, for Russian people the passion for freebies is indestructible);
work as consultants via the Internet (jurisprudence, taxes, medical issues and more);
write student works - term papers, diplomas, essays, help students in solving control tests;
draw illustrations and postcards, which are excellently sold on special Internet resources;
bookkeeping for private entrepreneurs at home;
create master classes;
bake cakes at home;
make translations;
write articles on order and for sale.

No need to grab onto everything at once, choose for yourself the occupation that you most like, which brings pleasure. If you have loved to sew or knit since childhood, you can improve in this area and try to do it on order. If you really love children, go work as a nanny. If the school in Russian and literature received one "five" - write articles. Work should bring pleasure and satisfaction, only then it will start to bring money. Work as a burden, I tell you, will never bring either money or satisfaction.
