When babies begin to dream

Why is the baby smiling in his sleep? Does he have dreams? They say that newborns smiling in a dream see angels. Sometimes sleeping crumbs begin to sob and sort out legs. What experiences make newborns cry in a dream?

When a child sees his first dream

For a long time, humanity lived with the axiom that the baby first sees dreams only after birth. Not so long ago, scientists proved that children see dreams in their mother’s womb. Already on eighth week of pregnancy simultaneously with the development of the organs of vision, the baby begins to see dreams.

This message from Harvard Psychiatry Professor Allan Hobson turned the minds of the scientist and future mothers about uterine development. The baby inside the mother’s tummy sleeps most of the time, the REM sleep phase, when dreams are seen, lasts four times longer in the womb than we adults do.

What do children see in a dream

We can say that the child develops with the help of sleep, but this is only the guesswork of scientists. What dreams are visiting our kids, has yet to be discovered. What will this give the world? A new branch of pedagogy will develop - perinatal education and training.

The dreams of newborns make unsystematic pictures. They are seen by infants up to a year. The more the kid gets “life experience”, the more often the pictures are intertwined into a plot colored by impressions and emotions. Up to three years, your child is unlikely to be able to fully tell what he saw in a dream. He will utter one word - cat, bird or any other.

Real dreams, imaginative and emotional, filled with actions and storylines, your child will be able to tell adults only when he is older, after three years.

What is primary

According to Allan Hobson, and there is no reason not to believe a serious scientist, dreams are primary. And this means that a small person is born already with his vision, with his “world map”. And it is laid in the mother’s womb.

Take a closer look at what your child does in his sleep. If he smiles and sniffs calmly into a pillow, that’s fine, that means he has good, good dreams. But when crying, sobbing, trembling uneasily - this is an occasion to think.

Usually unpleasant, frightening dreams are visited by sleeping babies due to experiences or unresolved problems in real life. The cause of a child’s nightmares can be a sleep disorder. These problems need to be addressed in conjunction with a pediatrician or child psychologist.

Everything in man takes its roots in childhood. And character, and habits, and evil, and virtue. So say the psychologists. Or maybe even earlier, before birth?
