Expecting the baby, I bought all the things that the young advised moms on the internet. Also, many things gave me relatives. It turned out that all these things occupy a lot of space in the house. But what did I really need and what lay idle? Now that my child is 5 years old, I have compiled a list of necessary and unnecessary things for mothers expecting a baby.
Things Not Everyone Needs
- Breast pump. Fortunately, it didn’t come in handy for me. She fed the baby herself, so this thing bought for the future lay in the package. A breast pump can be very expensive, so I would not advise buying it in advance. If there is such a need - buy (here we wrote about breast pumps).
- Bottle sterilizer. It was given to me by caring grandparents, but I never printed it. Probably, he would be needed for children on artificial feeding, but not for me. My baby, when he grew up to feeding, immediately began to drink and eat from a spoon, so there was simply nothing to sterilize (no, of course we also had a bottle, but to sterilize one bottle in a special expensive sterilizer is a bust) In my opinion, it’s easier to scald a bottle and not to purchase another unnecessary device in the kitchen (top 9 sterilizers).
- Yogurt maker. It seems to be a useful device, but still useless. I dreamed that my baby would eat natural homemade curds and yoghurts. The funny thing is that my boy, having seen my homemade yogurt, completely refused to eat it. I tried to transfer my product to the usual store packaging, but the fraud did not go away. I tried it myself - I like it. But I don’t want to cook myself like that - a lot of fuss. Now my yogurt maker is standing alone. Perhaps someone is comfortable, but for myself it’s easier for me to buy in a store.
- Bath and slide. I bought a pretty good and big baby bath. She honestly boiled water and bathed the baby in it while the umbilical wound healed. For boiling, a 10-liter "vat" was purchased. Bathing turned into torture. After the umbilical wound healed, we desired to bathe in a regular bath. Now this huge baby bath takes up a lot of space on the balcony. The slide is the same story: bought a couple of times. For those who do not have much space in the apartment, I advise you to think about such bulky and “one-time” purchases.
- Soviet-style vests and button down sweaters. They gave them to me, she did not buy it. Modern bodys have long supplanted these “grandmothers” things of the Soviet type.
Useful and necessary things
- Electronic thermometer. Believe me, this is a miracle! It helps to instantly measure the temperature of a screaming and tearing baby. I don’t understand how mummies used to be able to measure it with a conventional mercury thermometer :).
- Blender When the baby was breastfed, I was somewhat carefree. But when the doctors allowed me to introduce meat complementary foods, I was stumped.Grinding boiled meat with a fork or something else before the state of gruel is very difficult! After all, the baby still can’t chew large pieces well, therefore, “porridge” is needed. Of course, it’s easier to buy a ready-made jar of meat. But it is quite expensive and not always useful. Therefore, a blender is my lifesaver.
- Washer. When the baby appeared, washing became five times more. Without a washing machine, I would go crazy.
- Developing mat. A really necessary thing for a baby who is crawling so far. I left my son on the rug, and he could be there calmly for about half an hour.
- Circle on the neck for swimming. Find! It is scary to send a small person to "swim" in a huge bath. But with an inflatable circle, swimming turned into a pleasant procedure: both for me and for my son.

I forgot to tell you that a pillow for feeding is a very convenient thing))) and a water thermometer ........ without it, I can’t accurately determine the temperature of the water.
Each mommy has her own useful and useless things. Here, personally, the breast pump came in handy as air. But the circle around the neck my baby from the first time disliked, wriggled like in a frying pan and refused at all from him.
Everything is the same as yours, I didn’t need a small pump, although they demanded that it be in the hospital. Neither dummy nor shedding cups came in handy. But the circle for swimming, the most that))) It is probably impossible to bathe a child in a large bathroom and in the pool without it)))
I also consider the electronic deck chair rocking chair to be a very necessary thing, there will be time at least a little for other things, there are different modes of movement, various sounds for children and pendants with toys. I think this is an indispensable thing))
A breast pump came in handy, although the baby, as well as the author’s breast-feeding, was requested. I don’t like bodysuits and other overalls, they are not suitable for height or width, shirts are the best for us, but on buttons, and vests without fasteners are not convenient. By the way, I recommend the sliders on the ropes, maybe you can say that this is the Soviet Union, but I like them. A circle around the neck is a good thing. The baby does not lie on the rugs for a minute, as in the “rocker”, which many recommend. I can’t say anything about the blender, I don’t plan to buy.
We needed a slide and a bathtub before half a year, we won’t recognize the circle, without a breast pump I wouldn’t have survived a lot of milk so far, but now I don’t get enough of it.
