Every mother knows that a child in a family is not only joyful laughter and fun games. Often this is inexhaustible energy, fearlessness and the thirst to try everything yourself: especially that which is impossible. Avoiding dangers is real kung fu for parents. On the eve of the New Year, everyone is discussing whether it is worth putting a holiday tree in an apartment or is it better not to fall into the New Year’s statistics of the Ministry of Emergencies this time?

Scotch is the best decoration

Ksenia, mom of Anna (3 years) and Svetlana (5 years)

That was a couple of years ago. We have two daughters 1 and 3 years old. The youngest daughter on the eve of NG turned one year old, she only learned to walk and happily clutched at everything that she could. Naturally, turning over and dumping that which arose on its way to the goal. For a long time they could not decide to put the tree, but they thought that before the future repair it can be screwed up without a twinge of conscience to the floor, decorated and wrapped with wide cling film so that the child does not pull anything together and break it. The living room with the wrapped Christmas tree looked a bit strange and specific, but it was nevertheless elegant 🙂, and the holidays were gone without one broken toy. Eh ... if we knew how this Christmas tree will come to us in a year ...

tree in protective film

The girls grew up: one 2, the other 4 - decided not to wrap the tree. Dressed up at night when the girls were sleeping. And in the afternoon they gave us a return surprise. We cooked in the kitchen, and they played in the living room. I was surprised how quiet!

But when I entered, I was convinced: children + tree = nightmare. The eldest remembered that last year the tree was wrapped in something, found scotch tape and, as far as it was enough, pasted over the entire lower half of the branches along with the toys! I said she wanted to decorate her ...

Like a postcard!

Kristina, Seryozha’s mother (6 years old)

Earring a grandmother from Canada gave a wonderful musical card with Santa Claus. On it, Santa, standing on a stool, hung a star on the very top of the tree. The son loved the card very much and kept it nearby. So we decided to buy him a Santa's carnival costume from the same postcard. But something still we did not calculate. My smart son, apparently, decided that the reincarnation is incomplete without vigorous action. Everything happened instantly, right before our eyes! He put down a stool ... And climbed from a chair to the top of a decorated Christmas tree ...

It’s not hard to guess that in a second I pulled out a roaring child from under the prickly branches, wound around the arms of a bead, pieces of toys, and the rest of the evening we spent the whole family with a doctor. There were no serious injuries, but I will never forget the crash of a falling Christmas tree. In general, this year we are going to a matinee, we’ll have a round dance, and this time we’ll manage at home without incident. This year, the son himself asked not to put a Christmas tree.

Christmas toy pudding

Veronica, mother Grisha (3 years)

Grishka was always an extraordinary boy: he did not like to play cars like the others, but he loved to “cook” with me, I cook, and my son plays with pots. He could throw cubes there and stir with a spoon ... We joked: he will be a cook! But they did not imagine what a masterpiece a 2-year-old chef would cook for us for the New Year.

While I was running shopping at the store, his great-grandmother (79 years old) came to sit with my son. While she was quietly taking a nap next to the TV, two steps away from her, my son was busy with an extremely important matter: he dragged a large pot and spoon, put Christmas decorations in it (we had Soviet, glass ones) and stirred them ...

When I went into the apartment with bags after the crowding and noise in the shops, I saw this, for some time I could not realize. Woke up to a gentle smile and “Mom, want to eat?” Oh, well, that he did not have time to taste his rags from the fragments himself! Corvalol was repelled by her grandmother, Grisha had an educational conversation, but there will never be glass toys in the house again.

Young designer

Alexander, dad Maxim (4 years old) and Yana (6 years old)

All summer my wife and I were engaged in landscape design. Well, the children, Maxim and Yana (4 and 6 years old), watched, delighted to lay out colored pebbles along the paths in the country and carving figures from trees. So they decided to practice themselves out of season ...

In the hall there was a living Christmas tree, huge, to the ceiling. It’s still a shame: why bother, I was looking for such a fluffy and high one! Childhood, I thought, once in a lifetime, let the children rejoice. These partisans quietly scissors and shredded her while my wife and I were cooking in the kitchen. “Daddy, they wanted to make it triangular,” they almost cry, “but nothing happens.” He stood, did not know: either laugh, or cry.

5 safety tips

If there is a small child in the house, the following precautions must be observed when choosing and installing the tree:

  1. Best of all, if the tree is artificial, with soft “needles”, then the child will not prick and run into a splinter.
  2. The tree should be small. In fact - the less the better. If this falls on the child as a result of his careless actions, he will not receive severe damage.
  3. Put the tree on the floor, in the corner, it is better that there is a wall on both sides of it.
  4. It is not necessary to hang electric garlands on a Christmas tree, it is better on a wall.
  5. Toys - only plastic, wooden, paper - that do not break.

And remember that even with all these measures, an eye and an eye are necessary for a child!

When my children were young, we still decorated the tree, as usual. They didn’t climb to my toys, they didn’t tear, they didn’t bite, they didn’t beat me. We are apparently very lucky in this regard. I never even thought that many families with small children may have problems with the Christmas tree.

I really love the New Year and, accordingly, its main attribute is the Christmas tree. And therefore, for me, the question “did not install the tree when the children were in the house” was not - install, of course. At the same time, understanding of what this could turn into and that material damage would be the least of evils did not go anywhere either. We got out of the situation quite simply, the benefit of the housing area and the number of rooms allowed us to do this - we locked a room with a Christmas tree on a key. Yes, not everyone approves of this method (as we were told more than once that year), but they are all safe. The room opened only when someone was going to do something there, to stay for a while. Then the child could go, and the adult to relax. If, for example, someone is one of the adults at home and he is in the wrong room, the door is strictly key and there is no problem. So they survived. The New Year's holiday was not spoiled, the child was also not injured. The Christmas tree rejoiced as something magical. Under the door, by the way, when it was locked, it did not ache. Maybe we were just lucky.

Aahhhaaahhaaa, neighing with a Christmas tree wrapped with scotch tape)) By the way, we had no problems with the Christmas tree at all, from birth every year they posed no incidents)) Now we are already 8 and 6)) We have a Christmas tree more popular with cats and dogs ...

At one time, we abandoned the classic Christmas tree, but we still did not stay without the Christmas tree at all. We invited the artist, and for a very reasonable fee he painted us an insanely beautiful Christmas tree on the wall! Huge, up to the ceiling. He painted snow on the branches, toys, a bunny and a fox below. I myself returned to my childhood. And we put gifts for the child under this painted Christmas tree. It was a magical New Year! I still smile when I remember. By the way, we also had electric garlands - we attached them to the ceiling plinth around the perimeter of the room. Do not reach anyone, even adults without a stepladder. And the place where the cord fell to the outlet was closed, temporarily rearranging the cabinet. It was very beautiful)))))

I believe that of course you need a Christmas tree in any case. An artificial Christmas tree was always put in our family, both when I was a baby and when my younger brother was born. It’s just that we had it small, stood on the TV, and we didn’t reach it. Very comfortably. And when everyone grew up they bought a big Christmas tree, which is put on the floor.

When I was little, my parents decorated the house every new year and I helped them with pleasure, they ordered me to decorate the tree myself, I really liked to do it. Since those days of my childhood I have had very fond memories, so why now deprive them of such pleasure?

  7. Vladislav

You need to decorate the Christmas tree, because the New Year is a very important holiday for children and not only, because children believe in a fairy tale and miracles), however, there may be problems with pets)
