“A bedtime story” or why can’t gadgets replace a child’s book?

In the current electronic age, gadgets have become an integral part of the life of most people. Now they are used in almost all areas of life - in the classroom, at work, at home. Surprisingly, some parents even partially shifted the responsibilities for raising children to gadgets. Tablets, smartphones and other electronic inventions have almost replaced books and toys, even tablets read fairy tales to children. After downloading a fairy tale from the Internet, you can turn it on for your child before bedtime. But is such reading useful for children? Can gadgets replace the “live” bedtime story read by parents? What are the benefits of sharing with your child?

Spiritual relationship with children

When you leave your worries and affairs in order to read a fairy tale to your baby - this is not just entertainment, but a manifestation of love and care. Sitting down with a child on the bed with a book in your hands, you demonstrate to him that he is dear to you (you left your affairs and spend time with him). Children enjoy being with their mom reading for him. This lesson helps to get closer, strengthen the spiritual connection with children.

Gadgets can only entertain a child; they cannot replace parental warmth and attention. If a robot regularly reads fairy tales for your child, then your spiritual connection with the baby is broken. Do not brush off children by replacing yourself with gadgets.

Talking about reading helps you learn.

Tales are a kind of study guide. Through them, the baby learns the world, learns to distinguish between good and bad, do the right thing and show sympathy. But for the child to learn this, it is important to discuss what they read together. During the discussion, you need to explain to the baby what happened to the character, how he acted, what his actions led to. Encourage the children to put themselves in the place of the main characters of the tale, to fantasize and think. If you do this, the baby will learn to think, analyze and draw conclusions from the information received. In the future, this will reflect well on his personal qualities.

When a robot reads fairy tales to a child, as a result, the child remembers only its plot. He is unlikely to extract practical benefit from what he heard, because no one discussed the information with him.

Expansion of children's horizons

Tales are not simple stories about miracles and magic. They can be compared with a great encyclopedia that gives knowledge in different areas of life. Just imagine how many nationalities there are on our planet, and each nation has many of its own tales. All of them reflect the cultural values, folklore, customs and traditions of different countries. By reading them to your child, you give him an idea of the diversity of cultures on Earth and their characteristics.

Another joint reading is important because in fairy tales one can sometimes find words new to the child. Their meaning must be explained so that the baby remembers and assimilates them. Tales are a real storehouse of new information for kids, with their help, children will learn about everything in the world - countries, peoples, objects and phenomena. In order for a child to learn new information, it must be explained what gadgets are not capable of. Having heard a fairy tale from the robot, the baby may simply not understand much.

Calming before bedtime

If parents every day read a fairy tale to their child before going to bed, it becomes for him an evening ritual. The kid is looking forward to going to bed because it is associated with pleasant emotions. For children, reading is an opportunity to stay with my mother, to hear a new or already beloved fairy tale story, to dream and relax. All this, combined with the calm voice of mom or dad at bedtime, has a calming effect on children.

Bright displays of modern electronic devices affect the psyche of the child in the opposite way. They excite, increase anxiety, and this negatively affects the quality of sleep.. As a result, children become moody, often wake up at night, and in the morning they feel lethargic.

Why not give your child a childhood in which there will be more lively communication, more care and love? After all, when your children grow up, they will begin to use the latest technology every day.

Of course they will not replace. How can I replace communication with parents? With those people whom the child trusts the most. And as practice shows, during reading an adult tries to add something of his own to the fairy tale, which in his opinion is important for the child and which should be emphasized. Only after all, you must try to read so that the baby would be interested to listen to you.

My daughter has been using the tablet since she was three years old, playing games, watching cartoons from YouTube, listening to songs. But in the evening we have a tradition, we are sure to read bedtime stories. This brings mother and child closer and instills a love of reading.

But it seems to me that this is another attempt to persuade parents to buy a book. What will happen if I qualitatively, with intonation, read a fairy tale from a tablet ??? And one more thing: “The bright displays of modern electronic devices affect the psyche of the child in the opposite way” And the bright light turned on in order to read the book does not affect ??? And in any tablet, the brightness of the monitor can be screwed to almost zero.If the parent is educated and the child is important to him, then with the “gadgets” everything will be fine.
A book or tablet, no matter, this is just an excuse to pay attention to the child. I can actually recall a fairy tale from my head and retell it. Will it be bad too?
This is of course my IMHO.

As one hero used to say, “Take all the books and burn them,” I would recommend that you don’t burn everything, but burn any trash of information. The main thing is to think a little what you read to the child! And about brightness, make sure that the gadget shines in balls for you but not for the child. Here a good and kind book certainly steers.

The best thing is to refuse to read “finished” books in general, and become a children's writer and compose fairy tales. Unfortunately, many parents do not have the gift of a writer, but if the book is better than a gadget, then the author’s fairy tale composed by the Mother of the Princess Family is better than any Persistent Tin Soldier or Turnip. Incidentally, this is how many children's writers began. Astrid Lindgren invented Peppy Longstocking not herself, but with her daughter - Karin. Waldorf schools also prohibit children from not only computers and cartoons, but also books, because the child must learn the world as he sees it, and not as others teach it. Instead of books there are theater scenes with faceless dolls so that the child knows how to imagine. So in the name of the art of being Mom, let's stop reading books to children and start playing with him, writing fairy tales!
